Overview
It's been a tough couple of years for Aotearoa's live scene, but finally, gigs and shows are back — and that's something worth celebrating. Also worth celebrating is the ninth birthday of one of the city's favourite music and comedy venues, The Tuning Fork.
Don't worry, you can cheers to both at the same time with a stellar lineup of music and comedy shows coming to the Fork at the beginning of June, with the venue's special five-night birthday party.
As with most nine-year-olds' birthday parties, this one is set to be a true celebration of indie music. Things are kicking off on Wednesday, June 1, with a show by New Zealand's much-loved indie folk band Tiny Ruins, who'll be joined by special guest Finn Andrews. Then on Friday, June 3, the indie tunes keep flowing, this time from Aussie act Methyl Ethel. The brainchild of Perth musician, Jake Webb, Methyl Ethel has long been a fixture on the Triple J's Hottest 100.
Saturday, June 4 sees two NZ favourites, There's a Tuesday and Daffodils, going back-to-back. If you're a fan of tunes about sex and drugs sung in a thick Scottish brogue, you won't want to miss Arab Strap on Sunday, June 5.
And if after all that grooving you're in desperate need of a laugh, don't miss comedy trio Frickin Dangerous Bro on Monday, June 6, who'll be performing their first Auckland show in two and a half years. Come along for some of Frickin Dangerous Bro's signature mayhem, some special guest comedians, and a little bit of cake.
Tickets for all five shows are on sale now through Moshtix.
