Overview

To be vegan is not a choice, but a lifestyle. It is not a passing trend, but a lifelong commitment intent on saving the animals, saving the environment, and saving each other...from imminent doom? I'm not too sure. I don't think any non-vegan really understands veganism and the sermons they preach. So, to bring clarity to the subject and highlight all that is good and fluffy about the sport of veganism, Auckland welcomes The Vegan Food Fair.

Come Sunday 23 April, 140 different branches of vegan vendors will line Epsom's Alexandra Park. The elusive Soul Boul will take a break from traversing the coast to provide their coveted acai bowls and turmeric lattes; guilt-free fries (who knew there was such a thing) will be provided by Double Dutch; refreshing pick-me-ups come in the form of nice-cream by Little Island and Minti B; there will be mouth-watering authentic Indian dishes that won't put you into a food-coma; and because this food fest is going to be anything but conventional, of course there will be Kaiaroha Tree Nut Cheese.

If you fear being berated for your meat eating ways, fear not. The emphasis of the event is on the festivities – a showcase of the mountains of food alternatives and a celebration of a new lifestyle. We promise this is not a trap to convert the innocent.

A triple threat with food, music and entertainment, open your hearts to the friendliest foodies around. Who – despite their foreign ingredient lists – believe in conscious cooking because, damn, they just love the environment.
