The Weird Beer Challenge
This one-off event sets out to redefine what beer can, and should, be.
Overview
Are your tastebuds fatigued from drinking watery lager? Do you find yourself scanning the beer aisle for tasting notes like kale, worms, parsnip or steak? Look no further, weird beer lover.
Run by beer subscription service, Beer Jerk, The Weird Beer Challenge sets out to redefine what beer can, and should, be. For the one-off event, the team has reached out to some of the country's most innovative breweries and asked them to create the most outrageous but drinkable beers possible, using either a unique ingredient, wild fermentation or a forgotten brewing process.
The results will be revealed to the public at The Weird Beer Challenge on Saturday, 7 December at Beer Jerk's bottle shop and pop-up bar, The Fridge & Flagon. Attendees can expect weird and wacky creations from the likes of Garage Project, 8Wired, Double Vision, Wilderness, Emporium and more. A taster of the lineup looks like: a roasted carrot IPA, a Jamaican jerk seasoned beer, and another designed to taste like steak and kidney.
Food will be available from Serial Griller who are working on a weird burger for the day. The Weird Beer Challenge winner will be announced after judgment from beer writer Michael Donaldson and beer judge David Moynagh.
