Immerse yourself in a magical tale of triumph over evil, friendship and self discovery this month with a trip down the yellow brick road.

Fresh from his production of Othello at the Maidment Theatre, director Jessie Peach is bringing The Wizard of Oz to Auckland audiences.

This theatrical adaptation of the classic 1939 film stars many familiar faces. 20 year old Olivia Tennet, who is best known for her roles in Shortland Street and The Almighty Johnsons, slips on the ruby red slippers as the leading lady, Dorothy.

Accompanying Tennet are four veterans of New Zealand theatre; Raymond Hawthorne plays the Wizard of Oz, George Henare, OBE is the endearing Cowardly Lion, Helen Medlyn is the Wicked Witch of the West and Tina Cross, ONZM plays a singing, dancing glamorous chorus queen.

And making his debut as Dorothy’s sidekick Toto is Poco the dog who stood out against 160 other competitors to win the Purina Beneful Search For Toto competition held in July.

With only ten performances at the majestic Civic Theatre, be sure to take the family along to see this classic musical brought to life.
