Overview
Climate change has become a hotly contested topic, subject to green-washing, environmental marketing and lobbying in both the media and in government. New Zealand geologist Simon Lamb set out to address the oft misunderstood science behind climate change by following an impressive draft of scientists, biologists and physicists as they conducted research in the Arctic, Antarctica and around the globe. The resulting documentary Thin Ice, paints an intimate portrait of an international community striving to understand our planet's precarious future and frames the sense of urgency needed for climate action.
The pursuit of knowledge is an insatiable past time, guaranteed to inspire further questions and a hunger for answers. Thin Ice will certainly raise a lot of how's, why's and what if's; and it's not often that an audience gets a direct line to the film makers and stakeholders of a documentary to address those burning questions. Following the premiere screening of the film, actress and environmental advocate Lucy Lawless will moderate a Q&A panel to discuss the film and field questions from the audience. The speakers include the director Simon Lamb, Malcom Rands of Eco Store, Veronika Meduna of Radio NZ, Nico Elsen of Generation Zero and Sam Judd of Sustainable Coastlines.
