Overview

There is nothing more fascinating than two artists in conversation, especially when those artists are exploring complex and relevant ideas that you just want to learn more about.

Ruth Ige is interested in creating spaces that positions people of colour as the protagonists of places and stories. Her work lies at the axis of frustration and self-empowerment.

"The tension and censorship of self that occurs when a person of colour encounters a place and space where they are the unfamiliar or the minority and how their treatment in the public creates a need for a space for reflection, empowerment and self-care. These are the spaces I create within my painting."

Ammon Ngakuru is an installation artist working with ideas of place, distance and (un)belonging, using personal and public arrival information to guide him.

The resulting conversation is Thoughts on Secrecy — a name that already alludes to something a little bit special.
