Overview

It's that time of year again, when New Zealanders from across the country flock to Martinborough to celebrate Toast, a food and wine extravaganza that will be marking 30 years in the festival business this year.

While there's a whole range of different wine and food to enjoy, the newest addition to the Toast schedule, The Runholder, is the place to be. The Runholder opened its doors just a few months ago, quickly establishing itself a wining and dining destination. The epic venue is also home to local producers Lighthouse Gin which is distilled onsite, Martinborough Vineyards and Te Kairanga wines, whose barrels are nestled below the restaurant.

Lighthouse Gin will be kicking things off for The Runholder's Toast-adjacent celebrations on Saturday, November 18.

Head distiller Rachel Hall will be hosting the Lighthouse Gin Garden Party at the Te Kairanga cottage, a 130-year-old beauty that was once home to the original owner's workmen. You'll have the chance to chat all things gin while sipping on Hall's expertly crafted cocktails and gin and tonics.

For those who would prefer something lighter, local beers and Te Kairanga wines will be on offer. Soak up all the booze with a grazing platter prepared by The Runholder's head chef Tim Smith (the former star of Waiheke's Mudbrick vineyard).

That evening, guests will be treated to a dinner created with all the produce The Runholder has to offer, from fresh fish from Tora Collective to bread from Clareville Bakery.

The following day, on Sunday, November 19, The Runholder is turning it on again, inviting wine lovers to sip on The Runholder's best wines and nibble on chef Smith's world-class woodfired pizzas.

For those wanting a touch of luxury, VIP tickets are available, and include access to The Runholder's indoor lounge, a complimentary grazing platter and wine tastings with the experts from Martinborough Vineyards and Te Kairanga.
