Overview
A new pop-up art exhibition showcasing the talent of local artists is set to bring art lovers from around the city southwards.
Going ahead at the country's current red level in the COVID-19 protection framework, Toi Onehunga is the new exhibit featuring works from some of the many artists who call the huge south Auckland suburb and its surrounding area home.
Included in the lineup is a series of portraits local artist Isaac Trebilco has been working on since 2019, depicting various mana whenua from Ihumātao during the standoff between protesters and the Government. Other artists set to have their works showcased include acrylic art carver Anna Tang and photographer Estefania Lopez.
Overall, more than 30 artworks will be on display, from paintings and photography through to ceramics and sculpture — and almost all of them are available to purchase. The event was curated by Trebilco, who said it includes works that explore the rich heritage of the area,"from maunga to sea, as well as subjects from further afield".
Kicking off on Wednesday, March 2 and running until Sunday, May 1, Toi Onehunga is free and open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12pm-4pm, Fridays from 12pm-6pm and weekends 10am-4pm.
