Summoning all Tolkienists, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is coming to Auckland for a marathon screening extravaganza. Forget about Round the Bays, this is a true test of endurance that no other marathon can match. Academy Cinemas is inviting willing souls from around the country to watch all three Peter Jackson features — The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King — in succession.
Showing the extended versions (no novices allowed), the event will broadcast 694 minutes of pure, unadulterated Lord of the Rings glory. Bring your mates, and definitely bring an ample supply of snacks, to join Frodo and the gang for this thrilling journey to Middle Earth.
Starting at 10.30am on Sunday 20 May, you're gonna need to clear your schedule for this one. The slog will include two 30-minute intermissions between films.
