Turama: Matariki Light Trail

Overview

Matariki 2018 has arrived, and this year Auckland Council has partnered with Wāitakere iwi Te Kawerau a Maki. While the rāhui remains in place on majority of tracks within the ranges to avoid the spread of kauri dieback, the Arataki Visitor Centre is open, along with its surrounding tracks. One of many events hosted at Arataki, Tūmara: Matariki Light Trail is one not to be missed.

Running for four nights, the event invites visitors to explore the illuminated walkways, drawing inspiration from the nine stars of Matariki. In addition to immersing yourself in native bush, you can head into the Visitor Centre to observe the light box exhibition before heading to the lookout for an unobstructed view of the city lights of Tāmaki Makaurau. With plenty of parking and tickets starting at $5, there is no reason not to celebrate Matariki 2018 with the whole family this year.
