Universal Monsters
This retrospective film festival will feature a world of terrifying creatures.
Overview
Last year as the nights grew colder Academy Cinemas presented a collection of film noir classics on the big screen. To guide you through the darker months in 2020, the inner city picture palace is bringing audiences some spookier offerings.
From 6–19 July, Academy is teaming up with film studio Universal to present a retrospective of classic monster flicks. The studio helped to define the genre from the 1920s through the 1950s with its world of terrifying creatures — Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolf Man and Creature from the Black Lagoon.
The Universal Monsters series will feature all of the above, as well as the James Whale-directed masterpieces Frankenstein and its sequel The Bride of Frankenstein as a double feature. Also on show will be The Invisible Man and silent film The Phantom of the Opera.
