Overview

Visa Wellington On a Plate is set to return for its 12th year from 1–31 October with more than 100 flavour-packed events, special dining menus, burgers and craft cocktails.

While eating your way around the capital you can hear from prominent Wellingtonians and learn about the local food story. Every Wednesday in October during the festival, Te Papa is hosting bite-sized lunchtime talks.

Liz Mellish MNZM (Te Atiawa) will talk through the importance of food in Wellington's history from the perspective of tangata whenua, while Redmer Yska will reveal the lesser-known side of Alexander Turnbull as Wellington's first coffee baron and take a deep dive into the coffee culture of the Victorian capital.

Elsewhere, a panel of well-known chefs will reminisce about Wellington's 80s–90s heady dining days, and you'll hear from present restaurant owners including Steve D'Souza of Taste of Home and Tom Kirton of Tommy Millions.
