Overview

On loan from the Natural History Museum in London, the world-renowned Wildlife Photographer of the Year photo exhibition will be on display at the Auckland Museum from April 25 until August 3.

The Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide co-owned exhibition features 100 wildlife photographs - the subject matter ranging from animal behaviour to landscapes. Now in its 49th year, the annual international competition drew 43,000 entries from more than 98 countries in the world, with the finalists chosen based on creativity, artistry and technical complexity.

The 2013 winner, Greg du Toit, was a nature conservationist and wilderness guide before becoming a professional wildlife photographer. His days spent stalking animals became invaluable in capturing his winning work, the Essence of Elephants.

Follow the finalist-run blog for a deeper insight into the  processes behind creating some of their images.
