Overview

They say an image tells a thousand words and for the past 60 years, the World Press Photo Exhibition has featured the leading press photography from around the world, telling the stories of our time. From almost 100,000 images, the best of the best have been chosen and will be on display in Auckland this July.

When we think about iconic press photography, what no doubt comes to mind is the iconic the Pulitzer Prize-winning image of the young girl running naked down the street following a napalm attack, a lone demonstrator standing in front of tanks in Tiananmen Square and the image of the Buddhist monk who set himself alight in 1963.

This year's prize-winning photos highlight current world issues including the refugee crisis and Police racial violence in the US, hard-hitting images that pull you in and hopefully prompt you to take a deeper look at the world we live in; a look at humanity as it stands right now.
