Overview
In many ways, art and yoga go hand in hand. Both are practices that allow you to go deep within yourself, flex your creativity and find a little respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you're a lover of both — or even just one — a new class series from Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is just the ticket. Each Sunday morning at 9am, Auckland yoga instructor Penny Hacking will be leading an hour-long Hatha yoga class among the art. After all, what better way to get a new perspective on work than to catch a glimpse of it upside down during downward dog?
If you've been hesitant about signing up to a studio, this might be the best way to get a taste of the yogi life. Hacking promises the class is all inclusive, with everyone from brand-new beginners to more experienced yogis of any shape, size or fitness level all welcome. Each class will begin with warm-up stretching before building to stronger poses, including flow balance and breath focus. At the end, a relaxing meditation will give you the zen energy you need to get into your day.
Classes cost $18 for a drop-in session (or $16.20 for gallery members) and will be taking place in different locations around the gallery each week, so a new set of works can inspire some new emotions during each practice.
