Overview

If you've had a bad day and need a little lovin' you probably need some Little 'Lato. Calling all those who call themselves gelato connoisseurs, and those who are new to the cool delight, you (literally) ain't tried nothing yet.

Meet the Mary Poppins of gelato makers and the founder of Little 'Lato, Hannah Wood. After receiving a scholarship to study at the Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy, Hannah's romance with gelato took flight. Once she had perfected the art of making the dreamy dessert she returned to New Zealand, determined to share the love with a country that she believed was deficient in authentic Italian gelato. After that, Little 'Lato was born and the rest is history. With every new day, a new exotic flavour emerges from her carpet-covered bag, disguised as a freezer. Little 'Lato is the food of the people with a strict no dietary discrimination policy; it is exclusively non-boring for the dairy tolerant and intolerant alike.

Like a phone call from the love of your life, or the purchase of a winning lotto ticket, Little 'Lato is one of those defining life experiences you simply don't want to miss. Step into its office, nestled in a cosy corner at Crave Café, and find yourself a scoop away from heaven.

Hannah established the pint-sized gelato station after several discussions with Crave, initially around supplying gelato for the restaurant menu. That soon evolved into a full gelato bar.

Through a process of experimentation Hannah has created a selection of new and interesting flavour combinations. Try before you buy but be warned, choosing is a near impossible task, as each flavour is just as delicious as the next. Salted butterscotch is a crowd favourite, as is Speculoos; a gelato invention made from the crispy spice cookies hailing from Belgium. For a refreshing taste of the tropics go for mango lasi and/or strawberry and mint sorbet, Or if you're a chocolate or nothing person prepare for your expectations to be exceeded in the richest of ways.

Find Little 'Lato inside Crave Café (6 Morningside Drive). It's open Monday to Wednesday: 7am-5pm, Thursday to Saturday: 7am-10pm and Sunday: 7am-4pm.
