Double Dutch Fries Has Opened a Pop-Up Cafe on the North Shore

Usually found in a shipping container down Elliot Street and roaming weekend markets in a fleet of chip mobiles, Double Dutch Fries specialises in authentic hand-cut European frites, loaded with toppings like mayonnaise, satay and red onion (or a combination of all three). For two months, owner Timothy van der Werff will take a break from the fryer to mix things up with a pop-up cafe.

Located down food laneway Fortieth & Hurstmere in Takapuna, the temporary eatery — also called Double Dutch — will focus on coffee and traditional snacks from the Netherlands, including freshly made stroopwafels (thin baked Dutch waffles with gooey caramel), poffertjes (a traditional Dutch batter treat resembling pancakes), and broodje rookworst (Europe's version of the hotdog).

At this stage the Double Dutch Pop-Up is only scheduled to be around for May and June. It will be open every day at 40 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna from 8am to 3.30pm.
