Got someone in your life who considers themselves a chilli connoisseur? It's time to put them to the test with… peanut butter on toast?

Apparently, yes. Wellington peanut butter legends Fix and Fogg have released a specialty blow-your-socks-off peanut butter that they're claiming is the "world's spiciest".

You've probably seen their Kaitaia Fire-infused 'Smoke and Fire' PB on supermarket shelves, but today they've launched 'Smoke and Chaos', made with Carolina Reaper Peppers — the world's hottest (legal) chillies. Yes, apparently there are such things as illegal chillies.

To put it in perspective: The heat of chillies is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) and the standard Tabasco sauce you probably have in the fridge is 3750 SHU. The Carolina Reaper Peppers used to make this PB? A cool 1,641,183 SHU.

Okay, not for the faint hearted then. And maybe don't leave it around where kiddos can get their hands on it.

Fix and Fogg are doing an Aotearoa-only limited release of 2000 jars of 'Smoke and Chaos', which launches Wednesday February 23.

Founder and CEO Roman Jewell says this peanut butter "will humble even the most diehard of chilli fans".

"It literally comes with a warning," he says.

"We thought this year the world was ready to put a real fire in their bellies. All I can say is have a glass of milk at the ready and keep it out of reach of children."

Fix and Fogg's new 'Smoke and Chaos' peanut butter is now available to buy online from fixandfogg.com, retailing for $14.95 a jar.
