Overview

There's a lot to be said of a plant-based diet; namely a roll call of health benefits, sustainable significance and the opportunity to expose and try new flavours. After dedicating an entire month to veganism last year, Ponsonby eatery Gypsy Caravan will again celebrate the leafy eating preference this July.

Every Thursday for the rest of the month, the restaurant — which is dedicated to "eclectic modern traveller food" — is offering a six-course tasting menu showcasing the plant-based highlights of its current winter menu. Diners can expect items like braised daikon with broccoli and harissa, nori pasta with vegetable ragu and beetroot sourdough with fennel butter. Chef Touvai Poloniati is already known for his flair with vegetables and grows a selection of the restaurant's herbs and vegetables, as well as sourcing sustainable produce where possible.

To accompany the 100 percent plant-based menu will be a vegan-friendly drinks menu, including organic wines, beers and cocktails. Tickets are $65 per person for the set menu, and bookings are essential. Email hello@gypsycaravan.co.nz for more information.
