Overview
Global doughnut conglomerate Krispy Kreme opened the doors to its first New Zealand outlet in Manukau in February, prompting both controversy and mad hype — one dedicated customer even camped out overnight before opening day to claim a year's supply of doughnuts.
The American-born chain today announced that it will continue its New Zealand takeover with two more Auckland stores opening this year. Stores at Auckland Domestic Airport and in the CBD's Chancery Square will arrive in October and November, respectively.
The flagship Manukau store currently serves 10,000 customers a week and will transfer doughnuts from its production line, which can currently pump out around 4320 doughnuts per hour, to the two new locations daily. The new stores will create more than 60 new jobs.
Today, Krispy Kreme can be found in over 800 locations in more than 34 countries around the world. Australian-based franchise owners are behind the site on Ronwood Avenue which is part of an $8 million development owned by the Wiri Licensing Trust.
