Hoping to deliver the freshest deep-fried poultry experience in Auckland is new opening Seoul Chicken. The hole-in-the-wall space can be found between a bubble tea store and kebab shop on Wakefield Street in the CBD, serving a straightforward menu of Korean-style fried chicken.

In an effort to achieve maximum taste and extra crunch, Seoul Chicken's owners say that the difference lies in the primary use of free-range chicken and the act of regularly rotating the cooking oil. The menu has also been kept simple to keep cooking times down. There are just two styles of chicken on offer; visitors have the choice of the lightly battered original or the spicy version which comes doused in a thick sweet, savoury, tangy and sticky sauce — gloves are provided for this one. Both can be ordered in servings of five or ten pieces (wings, legs, thighs) for $16.50 to $35.

Every order comes with a small portion of candy floss-coloured pickled daikon radish to cleanse the palate. And if you still need something to cut through that spicy tang, an extra dose of pickle can be added for $2. To bulk out your meal, add a side of spicy waffle fries for $10.

Get it while it's hot and the queues are small.

Find Seoul Chicken at 17c Wakefield Street, Auckland CBD. It's open from 12:30–11pm, Monday to Sunday.
