Nine Mouthwatering Feasts You Can Order in for Mother's Day
Heading out for brunch might be off the cards, but you can still order in multi-course Asian fusion feasts, wholesome brunch hampers or high tea.
Unless you happen to be in the same bubble the current circumstances make it tricky to see your dear old ma. There are still ways you can show her how much she means to you — and there's no better way to do so than with a mouthwatering feast. Heading out for that yearly brunch might be off the cards, but you can still order in multi-course Asian fusion feasts, wholesome brunch hampers or high tea via contactless pick-up or delivery. Organising Mother's Day doesn't get any easier.
A THREE-COURSE SOUTHEAST ASIAN FEAST FROM SAAN/CAFE HANOI
The team behind Cafe Hanoi and Saan have created a Southeast Asian at-home menu for Mother's Day. It combines favourite dishes from both restaurants into one delicious three-course meal. Treat mum to Vietnamese roast duck salad, Thai mussaman curry with Hawkes Bay lamb, chargrilled eggplant and a Southeast Asian-inspired box of treats to finish. As an extra special treat you can add wine to the order from the likes of Laurent-Perrier, Amisfield, Spy Valley and Dogpoint. The multi-course meal can be ordered for bubbles of two to six people, with pick-up and delivery both available.
AN AT-HOME PICNIC HAMPER FROM THE TASTING SHED
Kumeu's The Tasting Shed is hoping to make Mother's Day that extra bit special with prepared at-home picnic hampers. The hampers can be arranged as either meat, seafood or vegetarian options (or a combo of the three). Take your pick from smoked chicken and prosciutto, baba ganoush and hummus, or smoked salmon and fish brandade. Whatever your preference, each order comes with house-made fennel butter, feijoa relish, sourdough, olives and nuts, pickles and cheeses. The hampers are priced between $55–65 and will feed two people.
A BRUNCH KIT AND FLOWERS FROM PARIS BUTTER
This Herne Bay French restaurant has put together a delicious brunch kit so no one has to cook or clean up the kitchen. For $60 per person, each package includes croissants, pain au chocolat, quiche lorraine, jams and spreads, smoked salmon, cheeses, charcuterie, orange juice and a personalised card for your mum. Go the extra mile and add a stunning bouquet from Rose Tinted Flowers. The blooms and brunch will be delivered together for maximum impact.
A HEAT-AND-EAT ASIAN FUSION FEAST FROM HELLO BEASTY
Waterfront Asian fusion restaurant Hello Beasty is dishing up three courses including a decadent dessert for Mother's Day. On Sunday, 10 May, your mum will receive drunken chicken salad, slow-cooked Sichuan lamb shoulder, charred broccolini, roasted carrots in white miso dressing, spring onion flat bread, and milk cake with meringue, pistachio and raspberries. The food comes prepared with instructions available online from head chef Stuart Rogan on how to heat and plate each dish. The feast feeds three to four people, and for an extra $100 you can kick it up a notch with fresh flowers.
A THREE-COURSE SUNDAY DINNER FROM THE ENGINE ROOM
HIGH TEA, SUNDAY ROASTS AND SASHMI PLATTERS FROM SAVOR GOODS
The hospitality group behind big name Auckland restaurants Ostro, Ebisu, Azabu and Lobster & Tap has a range of offers available for Mother's Day. You just have to decide whether mum would prefer decadent high tea, a Sunday roast, a sushi and sashimi platter, or a lobster roll feast paired with champagne.
A WHOLESOME BRUNCH BOX FROM THE MIDNIGHT BAKER
You may not be able to take mum out for brunch this year, but you can still send the morning feast in her direction. Mount Eden's The Midnight Baker has created a deluxe care package with everything mum needs to prepare a wholesome brunch. Included in each box is one of the toast bar's signature Freedom Loafs (or the mix to make your own); almond, spiced cookie or coconut and cashew butter; a selection of jarred pickles and poached fruit; Eighthirty plunger coffee or Forage and Bloom naturopathic herbal tea; plus a Jiho Yun notecard. All food is gluten-free and vegan. Orders made by 5pm Wednesday, 6 May will be delivered either Saturday, 9 or Sunday, 10 May.
AN INDULGENT FOUR-COURSE MEAL KIT FROM CULPRIT
Word has it that Culprit's Mother's Day kits are flying out the door — and for good reason. The four-course menu comes packed with indulgent starters like purple kumara crisps, Mahurangi oysters and Cazador's duck liver parfait, a main of braised lamb shoulder with kumara fondant and grilled peach stuffing, and burnt apricot caramel creme to finish. The Culprit team has done all the hard work so you (or mum) will simply need to follow the supplied heating, mixing and plating instructions.
A CHOCOLATE GIFT BOX FROM MIANN
If your mum has a sweet tooth then she'll definitely appreciate Miann's Mother's Day gift boxes. In each box she'll find the dessert company's indulgent hot chocolate, craft chocolate bars, house-made scorched almonds, almond and cacao twist cookies (to dip in that hot chocolate), and a personalised message. Pick-up options from the Fort Street and Morningside Chocolate Factory locations can be fleshed out to include macarons and heavenly sweet tarts.
