The space once home to Jafa Cafe in Grey Lynn has been given a new lease of life thanks to the owner of Parnell's Domain Ayr. The new opening, Richmond & Domain Kitchen, was named as a tribute to the landmarks that surround Steven Wen's two venues. The concept is simple: a neighbourhood cafe with great coffee, organic wines and seasonal food.

To transform the space it was all about using what was already available. For the DIY fit-out the team sanded back the tables and chairs and got on their hands and knees to reinvigorate the floor. Finishing off the space is work by Auckland visual artist Han Nae Kim.

The all-day menu aims to capture the seasons as they unfold and let the ingredients speak for themselves. Beyond a cabinet filled with sandwiches and sweet treats you find simple pleasures like eggs on toast, organic quinoa pancakes, avocado hash, a fish omelette with smash potato and half day-cooked pulled lamb with rosemary flatbread.

Collaboration is also a key part of the eatery. Local nutritionist Abbie O'Rourke from Feel Fresh Nutrition has been enlisted to help design pre- and post- work out juices and smoothies, and a signature tea blend is in the works with Waiheke Island's Timmy Smith.

Find Richmond & Domain Kitchen at 551 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn.
