There aren't many things that represent a New Zealand summer more than a newspaper-wrapped bag of fish 'n' chips, a leg of lamb on the barbecue or a long evening walk on the beach. But have you ever wondered what a Kiwi summer might taste like as an ice cream? Thanks to Hawke's Bay ice creamery Rush Munro's, you can now find out.

Rush Munro's has revealed four special edition ice cream flavours, which it is rolling out throughout December, starting back on Wednesday, December 13. These flavours have been inspired by the picturesque scenery surrounding the Hastings flagship store, which may have taken a beating during Cyclone Gabrielle, but is ready to welcome back visitors — both domestic and international — this summer.

The first ice cream out of the scoop shop is 'Pedal the Cycleways', which has been created with Hawke's Bay's cycle trails in mind. The wildflower-flavoured ice cream is sprinkled with white chocolate biscuit and topped off with a strawberry and syrah sauce, a nod to the award-winning wineries scattered across the region.

Next up is 'Farm-to-Plate Excellence', a lamb and mint flavoured ice cream that pays homage to the region's dining scene, which champions local produce. This savoury ice cream is drenched in chocolate merlot sauce before being topped with a pea and white chocolate macaroon, plus a sprig of mint.

'Relish in the Coastline' is meant to remind you of summer walks on the beach and the perfect Kiwi dinner: fish 'n' chips while watching the sun go down. The fish 'n' chips ice cream is a combination of sweet and savoury flavours: a white chocolate snapper, chardonnay and peach-flavoured edible sand, and a crunchy chocolate-covered potato chip.

Rounding out the limited editions is 'Peak-Top Picnic', the perfect accompaniment to a late evening picnic. This flavour is your artisan platter in ice cream form, with flavours of tangy manchego cheese, honey and fig.

The limited-edition flavours are available at Rush Munro's ice creamery, 201 Heretaunga Street East, Hastings, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, from Wednesday, December 13.
