Overview
Fifteen years after the original Hallertau outpost starting pouring suds in Riverhead, the brewery has opened another beer-swilling location just shy of the Hunua Ranges in Clevedon.
Hallertau Clevedon is similar in concept to the original biergarten and brewery. The new all-weather space on the site of the old Clevedon Hotel & Pub has room for 250 diners under a large canopied al fresco area. Tapping into the family friendly dining market, the expansive space also comes equipped with oversized versions of games like Connect Four and a miniature golf set-up for bored ankle biters.
The Clevedon biergarten is rolling into the new year with an initial five days of trading from Wednesday through Sunday. April will welcome the addition of a 600-litre brewhouse which will have a focus on experimental, seasonal and collaboration brews. In addition to favourites like the #2 pale ale, #4 black beer, #7 Maximus IPA and #09 Beer of Auckland, fans will soon find Clevedon's own Hallertau ale on the 25-tap lineup.
The menu closely follows the Riverhead original with sourdough pizzas, daily charcuterie boards, braised beef krokets and jalapeño poppers. Clevedon oysters and the region's famous buffalo mozzarella and curd makes several appearances on the menu, offering visitors a fresh taste of the historic southern settlement.
Hallertau Clevedon is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4pm until late and Friday to Sunday from 12pm until late. Find it at 26 Clevedon-Kawakawa Road, Clevedon.
