Sure, there are plenty of ways you can already enjoy your whisky: neat, on the rocks, with a splash of cola. However, time poor socialisers no longer need to spend precious time sip, sip, sipping on a drink. Single malt whisky brand Glenlivet is throwing out the rule book with the launch of its new edible cocktail range.

The new Glenlivet Capsule Collection offers an alternative way to enjoy whisky by using an edible casing that dissolves in the mouth. Made from seaweed extract, the casing is a renewable resource that biodegrades faster than fruit peel. The casing is also flavourless to ensure the taste of the whisky is not disturbed. No glass, ice or mixer required; simply pop the capsule in your gob and keep on trucking.

The cocktails, served in 23-millilitre measures, can be drunk by nibbling off a corner and sipping, or by popping the entire capsule in your mouth and biting down to burst. The little pearls are spiked with old fashioned and pineapple punch Glenlivet cocktails.

Participating bars across New Zealand are now serving up two complimentary capsules with any cocktail purchased from the dedicated Glenlivet menu. The capsules will be available from Tuesday, June 1 for a limited time only at Auckland's Sugar Club, Sardine and Coley & Punch, Wellington's Arborist, Christchurch's The Last Word, and Queenstown's Bardeaux.
