Overview
Earlier this year we revealed that Auckland's new transportation hub, Commercial Bay, will arrive with the addition of an 800-seat food hall, three floors of retail outlets, a restaurant named after two prize-winning racehorses and five "buzzing restaurants".
A handful of those buzzy openings have now been revealed as the work of some of Auckland's hospitality elite. From Mimi Gilmour, the dynamo behind Burger Burger and former co-owner of Mexico, will come the fourth outpost of the popular burgerie. With locations already in Ponsonby, Newmarket and Takapuna, the new venue will open up a whole world of delicious eats to inner city dwellers. Also revealed to be part of the development are Depot and Federal Delicatessen's Al Brown and MasterChef judge and Michellin-starred chef Josh Emett. The lid is being kept firmly sealed on their respective concepts.
The eateries will join New York-born Saxon + Parole, an equestrian-themed restaurant with a core focus of meat-centric eats and housemade whiskey. The menu will also feature the Impossible Burger: the infamous plant-based patty that looks, smells and bleeds like beef.
The loose opening date for Commercial Bay is 2019. Find more information here.
