Cosset - CLOSED

Overview

I've always been a sucker when it comes to things like black and white tiled floors, mismatched cutlery and anyone who appreciates not only the function, but the sheer kitchness-cool of a tea cosy. If you too have a fondness for these finer details in life, I'd recommend scooting a little out of the central bubble for a visit to Cosset in Mt Albert. After being tipped by an in-the-know-of-secret-little-local-finds local (you know the ones) I decided to trial a Saturday morning coffee at this wee spot.

Cosset is definitely off the beaten track, located well into the heart of Mt Albert. From the outside it's relatively unassuming, however, inside it's a haven of crafty collectables. Old school hinge desks have been converted into tables along with an array of patchwork cushions that would have any nana's paling by comparison. The collection of art that was delicately strung along the wall with miniature pegs was also a seal on the deal of cute.

Although I only stopped by for coffee, I had a good geez of the menu, which is completely organic and vegan. For someone like me, who when going out to breakfast just assumes that bacon is a staple, I thought that this might be limiting. Nah-uh. Cosset's clocked an impressive wee menu with both savoury and sweet to tempt your breakfasting. I'm also a big fan of the 'toast' option. Sometimes it's all you feel like, right? I also like that there has been nothing done to try and over-glamourise it. Just toast ok? Cool.

On my way out, after committing a return visit to try the Cigara Borek (cigar shaped pastry filled with organic potato and onion, dill, mint and parsley), I also noticed a shelf of home made jams and syrups. Being one of those weird people who really likes black jellybeans, the jar of Star Anise syrup jumped out at me. I'm assuming you could make some pretty adventurously delicious beverages from that little concoction. Will be back to investigate for sure.
