Overview

If you haven't ventured near the construction near the Eden Terrace end of Mount Eden recently, it's worth donning your high-vis and making a trip to a recently opened neighbourhood cafe offering freshly baked goods and excellent coffee.

Bound to be a morning go-to for the new business and retail precinct in the newly refurbished multi-million dollar Mount Eden train station (due for completion 2024), Mibo is a small, sugar-filled oasis tucked away down Enfield Street among the roadworks and 'please use footpath other side' signs.

With a fit-out by Mille (Umu, Williams) and the sister eatery to nearby cafe St Benedicts, you can grab a coffee to go or opt to sit outside on the footpath soaking up the morning sun. The real drawcard here is the freshly baked pastries, which you've probably already spied on Instagram thanks to their dedicated fan base. The classics abound — think ham and cheese croissants, almond and pistachio pastries, savoury scrolls — or for a particularly indulgent pick-me-up try a croffin: a croissant/muffin hybrid which comes in both sweet and savoury options.

For something a little more hardy, a folded egg and streaky bacon bap or balsamic-roasted veggie sandwiches on house-made focaccia are guaranteed to keep the hunger pangs at bay until lunch.

If you're not in a rush, we'd recommend enjoying your coffee and pastry selection on one of the small tables outside the window — they're in a prime spot to watch the pastry be shaped, glazed and baked inside.
