Overview

A wise person once said "let them eat cake". Mint Cakery is the perfect place to oblige that order, filled with a delicious array of cakes, tarts, slices and donuts in a variety of delectable flavours. It's a new addition to the cluster of shops slowly emerging near the corner of Pt Chev and Meola Road and looks set to become a popular destination for all your sweet treat needs.

Owned and operated by talented baker, Michelle Bevan, Mint Cakery represents the next phase for an already popular market business who some of you may recognise from her regular stand at the Mt Albert Friday night and Saturday morning markets. More of a takeaway destination, it's a quaint little space filled with bright natural light from a front bay window, streaming light over a cabinet filled to the brim with both sweet and savoury options.

Arriving on a cold and wet Auckland day, I was greeted by a smiling face that was only too happy to take me through the flavours of the different treats on offer. Unable to choose from such delights as: dark chocolate, espresso and caramel; banana salted caramel; lime and coconut or dark chocolate and raspberry, I decided the only way forward was to take them all on their 'four for $20' deal. Designed like mini cakes these were almost (almost, but not quite) too pretty to eat, decorated with shards of chocolate, vibrant edible flowers and a generous swirl of golden salted caramel. My work colleagues and I devoured these for afternoon tea with many an, 'ooh yum' and 'delicious' being heard from the tearoom. The cakes were moist and light and big enough to share leaving you with a feeling of complete satisfaction and anticipation and what to try next without feeling like you'd over indulged.

For the not-so-sweet tooths out there, Mint Cakery also offer savoury scones, tarts and bite-sized treats, along with coffee from Flight and a selection of teas from Fine and Dandy. You can also order a variety of wedding and specialty cakes that can serve four people, if you're having a girl's night in, right up to 24 for those bigger occasions and every flavour can be made gluten free - ensuring there is something for everyone. You could even pick up a bunch of fresh flowers (when available) and bring home the complete, 'I love you', 'I'm sorry' or 'let us eat cake' bundle.

Their offerings change daily but with innovative flavours such as apple salted caramel, plum crumble and vanilla bean passionfruit with white chocolate as-well-as the usual lemon meringue, dark chocolate with salted caramel and banana dulce de leche suspects, Mint Cakery is factual proof you can have your cake and eat it too.
