Satya

With eyes most definitely bigger than our stomachs we cannot stay away from the spicy pull of the food of the sub-continent.

Overview

Curries and drinking always seem like a good idea at the time, but often the bloat factor (or as an old mate terms it, the Post Curry Malaise – PCM) puts bit of a dampener on the subsequent all night raging. However, if you've got eyes most definitely bigger than your stomach and can't stay away from the spicy pull of the food of the sub-continent, then Satya is where your Indian BYO fix is at.

There are currently four Satya restaurants around Auckland. My firm favourite however, is surely the one on Great North Road conveniently located near the bright lights of Ponsonby and the mysteries of K Road. Satya's cuisine is South Indian with incredible depth of flavour and quality ingredients. They also have extensive vegetarian options.

The flagship dish and absolute must eat is Dahi Puri, which is seriously intoxicating stuff.  An entrée which should be shared, but almost never is.  You'll want to savour and devour every last morsel. No journey down the Indian highway is complete without the classics of Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala and rotis and garlic parathas to soak it all up.

Food coma aside, I'm all about encouraging a mid winter visit to Satya to satisfy those curry cravings.
