Overview

If you walk into a cafe and they're playing Bon Iver, you can almost safely assume it's going to be good. Or at least, that's the case for Tongue in Groove. The Birkenhead local has one of the best cafe soundtracks I've heard in a long time - The XX and James Blake also getting some turns, which adds to the mellow atmosphere of the cafe that makes it a pretty sweet breakfast or lunchtime spot.

The cafe is decked out in a minimalistic Swedish style - with neat piles of retro paraphernalia ranging from board games to National Geographics featuring as decor. All in all a nice touch.

Food-wise the quaint cafe also delivers - with a selection of cabinet meal choices or a pretty mouthwatering menu selection ranging from mushrooms on toast to eggs bene to various salads. I went for the falafel salad ($15.50) with walnuts, pumpkin seeds and grilled haloumi, which was the type of lunch which keeps its promise as being light, but is also deceptively filling.

Come here for an hour or two when you need to unplug and enjoy the sunshine.
