Overview

Wanaka Wastebusters is a community-owned enterprise with a vision of achieving zero waste. Established in 2000, the massive second-hand shop sells a throng of sustainable goods, everything from pre-loved designer threads to retro furniture and antique treasures. Each year, Wastebusters attracts more than 100,000 visitors to the reuse shops in Wanaka and Alexandra

All goods are donated by members of the community and often people buy something, use it for a while, then drop it back to Wastebusters when they no longer need it. It's a lovely cyclical and communal approach that makes life in Central Otago a bit more affordable (and environmentally friendly). Wanaka Wastebusters is open 9am–5pm, seven days a week, and there's an after-hours recycling drop-off if you wish to recycle out of normal operating hours.

So, next time you're in downtown Wanaka pick up something funky and sustainable and do your bit for the planet.
