Overview

Murchison is known as the whitewater capital of New Zealand because it has so many raging rivers, perfect for fishing, kayaking, boating and whitewater rafting. You can pick your own adventure and opt for a more family friendly gentle descent or a more heart-thumping whitewater ride. If you get a chance to check out the scenery as you fly by, it's stunning, especially the famous Ariki Falls and pink granite canyon. There are big pools in between the rapids which are great for swimming and relaxing in should all that whitewater action get the better of you.

Your guides will make sure you're safe and they'll even give you a cup of tea at the end to warm you up. Ultimate Decents offer half day tours that run for four hours, with two hours on the water rafting, and cost $160 per person. As a bonus, you'll be given photographs of your rafting experience for free. Here's hoping your resting rafting face is a good one.
