Roy's Peak
You need to be pretty fit to tackle this one, though you don’t need to do the full 16-kilometre, five to six-hour journey to see some spectacular countryside.
Overview
To venture up to Roy's Peak, start from lake level at the Roys Peak Track car park on the Mount Aspiring Road near Wanaka and climb 1500 metres. Here, you'll be able to see Lake Wanaka with its bays, islands and mountain backdrop. Take water, snacks, your camera and be prepared for jaw-dropping beauty. And be aware that the track is closed for lambing from October 1 to November 10.
