Tatare Tunnel
Originally created by miners in search of gold, this tunnel will take you to a sea of glowworm light.
Overview
The Tartare Tunnels walk takes you along an old four-wheel drive track next to the beautiful Tartare Gorge, then on to the tunnels that go through 500 metres of bedrock. The trek takes around 80 minutes, and the tunnels can be quite narrow and wet underfoot. Make sure to wear waterproof gear and definitely bring a torch. When you get deep into the tunnel, look out for glowworms. Once you've found them, turn off your torch and take in the glow.
