There is a plethora of fabulous walks to do around Punakaiki, but there's something truly special about taking it all in via horseback. The most popular option is the two-and-a-half-hour trek that takes you through the basics of horse riding and on a ride up the valley. You'll cross a river to get to a rustic forest cabin and then head back past limestone cliffs and rainforest to finish along the beach. It's $190 well spent.
