The wellness sector is steadily making its mark in the travelling world. Visitors through Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong lounge already have a way to soothe the mind, body and soul between flights with a dedicated meditation and yoga sanctuary. And now, off the back of being named the airline of the year by AirlinesRatings.com, Air New Zealand has teamed up with Les Mills to create a series of inflight exercises to enhance the wellbeing of passengers — and perhaps even ward off the dreaded deep-vein thrombosis.

From December, all customers travelling on international Air New Zealand services will have access to a series of instructional videos on the airline's inflight entertainment system. The free wellness segments are presented by a team of Les Mills instructors and demonstrate stretching, meditation and exercise techniques to "effectively alleviate any symptoms associated with travelling." Rather than encourage burpees and tuck jumps in the aisle, the low-impact exercises have been designed so passengers can perform them from the comfort of their seat.

Air New Zealand Senior Manager Customer Experience Niki Chave says, "We understand the challenges of flying — some customers want to relax and unwind, while others need to stretch and move their bodies while at altitude. The team at Les Mills has crafted these movements specifically for Air New Zealand customers so they feel refreshed and ready to enjoy their destination."

The service will be free to all customers, with adaptations for Air New Zealand's Economy, and Business Premier seats.

In line with the partnership, travellers will also receive a ten-day free trial of the Les Mills On Demand service, opening up access to more than 800 workouts that they can do in their hotel, office, or once they're back home.

It's not the first time the mega-gym has been involved with the airline; Les Mills once hosted an exercise class with former Air New Zealand safety video star Richard Simmons to help raise money for Christchurch EarthQuake Appeal.
