Overview
Since 1772, when the French first pioneered Veuve Clicquot, the infamous champagne has become the hallmark of celebration and enjoyed across the globe. 245 years down the track and we're still popping corks at any given moment. If you have to justify the validity of the occasion to yourselves just to taste a sweet sip of indulgence, it's okay, you're not alone.
Hilton Hotels & Resorts are leading the way in hospitality this year in a world's first exclusive partnership with the brand. Guests will be provided with a touch of French luxury this winter.
Hilton in Auckland, Lake Taupo and Queenstown are inviting guests (who book before August 25) to enjoy one of their Hôtel du Marc-inspired rooms. Each suite has been designed by interior stylist Michelle Halford of The Design Chaser to mirror Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin's private 19th century mansion in Reims, France. Rooms are adorned with the signature vibrant orange, luxurious wool textural pieces are draped over furnishings and rooms even feature antique artwork of Madame Clicquot herself. The deal also includes complimentary breakfast and a bottle of champagne on arrival.
Concrete Playground visited Hilton Lake Taupo to experience the Hôtel du Marc hospitality first hand. While the French equivalent is 'invite only', thankfully our very own Hilton opens its doors to all, regardless of which swanky circles you associate with (or without).
The Ponsardin Suite boasts breathtaking views across Taupo's handsome landscape. A generous bottle of champagne awaited our arrival, with an invitation to dinner at Bistro Lago, the property's in-house restaurant. If we can recommend one thing, order the chocolate fondant with coconut sorbet for dessert. Enjoy it with a glass of champagne next to the roaring fire — now tell us that's better than a pint at your local this weekend.
Down the country at Hilton Queenstown, a three-course meal is on offer at Wakatipu Grill, as well as a 'flute and facial' promotion at the hotel's own spa facility. In our own city, Hilton Auckland guests can enjoy a pear sorbet matched with some bubbly at FISH. So if your schedule is too jam packed to venture out of Auckland, you can still enjoy a night of luxury in your home town.
If you're looking for a spontaneous getaway this month, you now know which hotel will be calling your name. Bookings can be made up until August 25 for the luxury Hôtel du Marc experience.
