Overview

A brand new luxury hotel has emerged in Auckland's CBD, promising expertly curated rooms and exciting fine-dining options for guests to indulge in. The InterContinental Auckland has been four years in the making, with the hotel finally throwing open its doors on Tuesday, January 30.

The high rise features 139 rooms and suites, with a large chunk of the accommodation sporting breathtaking views of the Waitematā Harbour and beyond. For those looking for a more opulent holiday, the hotel will have exclusive Club InterContinental rooms available to book which include access to the Club InterContinental lounge (set to open in June 2024).

The InterContinental's walls have been decorated with artwork from local artists and iwi, with an emphasis on Māori culture. Every room will be decorated with a whakiri — a traditional Māori woven mat created by Beronia Scott and Te Pūawai Ōrākei Marae, as well as the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei weaving collective. As well as the whakiri, guests will find photos taken by renowned Māori and Scottish artist Fiona Pardington in each room.

Guests will also be able to try out the hotel's brand new restaurant, created by UK-born chef Gareth Stewart. Stewart is no stranger to Auckland's fine dining scene, after moving across the world to head up Soul Bar and Bistro and creating menus for establishments like Jervois Steak House, Euro and Andiamo.

Stewart's InterContinental restaurant, named Advieh, will serve up Middle Eastern cuisine with a contemporary spin, with spice and flavour being the two guiding elements of all dishes.

Stewart has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to Advieh's menu. "I'm confident there is nothing like Advieh in Auckland and I'm looking forward to surprising guests in the best possible way and creating a world-class restaurant and bar experience," he said.

Advieh will open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks (and presumably be fair game for locals, not just hotel guests).

In addition to Advieh, guests will be able to enjoy a cocktail with a view when the hotel's rooftop bar opens later in 2024. In the meantime, if guests are keen to grab a drink elsewhere, they are only a few steps away from Commercial Bay. Located at One Queen Street, the hotel backs on to the luxury shopping mall, filled with designer boutiques and a multitude of dining options.

The InterContinental Auckland is located at One Queen Street, Auckland CBD. The hotel officially opens on Tuesday, January 30, but guests are able to book their stay and a meal at Advieh now via the hotel's website.
