*Dramatic paws*
Welcome to the best dog-friendly cafes in Auckland. In no particular order, but in order below.
CORELLI'S
46 Victoria Road, Devonport
Located on the Devonport's main drag, Corelli's welcomes a daily mix of locals and boat loads of daytrippers from the continuous ferry service. It's rustic, homely atmosphere and sun trapped front courtyard creates a faultless mix for hound hangs. Not only will your human self be satisfied by something from their extensive five-page menu or delicious on-site five-bean roasted coffee, but, as bonus points, they also offer an all natural dog biscuit for our furry friends. Mika gives Corelli's and the biscuit an A+, would trade again. We even took a doggie bag home, for the doggie.
ALLPRESS EXPRESSO
8 Drake Street, Freemans Bay
All you city slickers with apartment pooches, will be glad to hear of this gem located on Drake Street, downtown. Allpress Expresso Cafe boasts a large covered front deck, necessary for this unpredictable Auckland weather, featuring plenty of seating options and space to spread out the paws. Excellent, tick tick, I hear you say. But wait! What about my triple shot soy macchiato? Better yet, being Allpress Expresso flagship the coffee churned out of here is extraordinary. Coffee any console would drool over. After full caffeine consumption has occurred, I recommend a stroll to the park located across the road, always in season for a wander yonder the oak trees.
DIZENGOFF
256 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby
Ponsonby pooches rejoice! While the popular burb is bursting with cafe inhabitants a fair slither of them take the cake when it comes to housing the hound, cutting that cake and pouring a premium brew. The friendly fellows at Dizengoff offer's a row of covered curbside seating to cradle you and your canine companion from the elements of Ponsonby road (read: double width pushchairs and aggressive shoppers). Always quick with the coffee and simple yet satisfying menu of decalents, it's always a hit when your target is Dizengoff. Afterwards it's easy enough to join the bustle by walking the paved paths of Ponsonby.
JAM
33-45 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna
When you need a shore-fire place to get a decent feed with plenty of space to stretch out those four legs you can set the compass to north. Jam Cafe on Auckland's sunny North Shore doesn't just serve up table-spoonfuls of delicious organic breakfasties but they conveniently perch on the cusp of the Hurstmere green. A delightful and very well groomed park all within site of the large Jam Cafe tables. All located within a balls throw of the infamous Takapuna beach, there's nothing better than winding up a meal with a stoll shadowed by your canine companion.
GEEKS ON SAINSBURY
55 Sainsbury Road, Mount Albert
Entering the city fringe where to the naked eye house prices remain unaffordable... wait they still are. The burb of Mount Albert plays host to Geeks on Sainsbury. While the coffee and food is something I could 'waffle' on about I'll stick to why the Mut should unmuzzle this local establishment. While not ideal for the winter weather, unless you manage to time it well, the majority of the seating is located outside on the wide open concrete space. This then fronts onto an open grass space to put your paws through their paces while your owner muffles over their hot bevvy of choice.
BEST UGLY BAGELS
3A York Street, Newmarket
90 Wellesley Street West, City Works Depot
Whatever the weather, Bagels are always a good idea. But when your pawed pal is also craving for the bagel-ing, you can rest assured uncle Al has Auckland covered. That's right, whether you reside in the concrete playground (oh! Title drop) of the CBD or the mean-streets of Newmarket you're always going to be a tail wag away from a Best Ugly Bagel store. Both stores in Al Brown's bagel empire have been (or we like to think they have) crafted with mut's in mind. Offering plenty of covered outdoor seating and warm fireplaces to snug up next to during with winter wonderland season.
