This Travel Company Has Launched a Series of Week-Long Guided Holidays

Local explorers can sign up for two seven-day experiences.

It's no secret that the travel and tourism industries have been overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the borders remain closed in New Zealand, and that trans-Tasman bubble is still a far-off dream, the focus has shifted to domestic travel.

International travel company Trafalgar has adapted to the changes by launching a new series of guided holidays for Kiwis, by Kiwis. The Near Not Far Limited Series is called an "introduction to homegrown heroes."

Local explorers can sign up for two seven-day experiences. On the Southern Stories itinerary, which journeys from Christchurch through Dunedin and onward to Southland, guests will be introduced to sheep mustering and whip cracking in Kingston, be escorted through the stunning UNESCO-listed Fiordland National Park, and have an opportunity to try 'Southland sushi'.

Trafalgar's seven-day Winterless North experience takes travellers from Auckland through Hokianga, Doubtless Bay and the Bay of Islands, working with small local businesses and those that are new-to-tourism. The itinerary includes a visit to New Zealand's only coffee growing plantation, wine tasting and lunch on the stunning Karikari Peninsula, and a stopover at the country's largest kauri tree, Tāne Mahuta.

Each trip includes an experienced guide, six-nights accomodation and select meals.
