Overview
Has the hectic start to 2024 already got you feeling frazzled? Have you been working so hard that you can't even remember the last time you touched grass? Then Unyoked may just be the perfect escape for you.
On the surface, Unyoked is a company that builds cabins in the depths of the wilderness in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, leaning on everyone's need to recharge in nature. But in reality, Unyoked is a lot more than that — the team has worked hard to create an experience that aims to make people both feel better and think better, while appreciating all that mother nature has to offer.
Unyoked's New Zealand cabins are sprinkled around the outskirts of Auckland, with three in Raglan, just a two-hour drive away from the Super City. The team has also just added three more cabins to its nature-loving family, named Max, Maia and Lea, which are nestled in the green hills of Kawakawa Bay.
Each cabin may have the same purpose, but they differ significantly, starting with what Unyoked calls the 'adventure level'. Max is deemed to be 'mild spice' with a short 460-metre hike from your car to the cabin itself. Max's features are perfect for those who need to recharge, with an outdoor hot tub complete with views of 1000-year-old ponga ferns and native trees.
Lea, another 'mild spice' cabin, is a 300-metre trot from your car. Surrounded by a vast forest, it comes with views of a surging river. This cabin is perfect for couples looking to connect, with an exclusive swimming hole and a woodfire pizza oven.
Finally, a 'medium spicy' hike will take you to Maia, the only cabin out of the three new additions that may cater to those more comfortable with adventure. Maia is best suited to those that are looking for a creative breakthrough, located high on the hills of the Bay the surroundings encouraging inspiration.
The cabins provide the necessities — like a cosy bed — and most cabins will be stocked with towels, a gas stove, cooking equipment, plates, a shower, toilet, fridge and toilet paper.
Unyoked's Maia, Max and Lea cabins are all located in Kawakawa Bay, an hour drive southeast of Auckland. The cabins can be booked via the Unyoked website.
