Overview
UPDATED: MARCH 27, 2019 — Summer has ended, but it doesn't mean the weekend spritz sessions need to, too. To help extend the summer vibes for a little longer, Richmond eatery Jamu has launched a new bottomless brunch session, running from midday–3pm every Saturday and Sunday. For $49 a person, you'll get endless Aperol spritzes, mimosas, Pimm's cocktails and beers — as well as a lineup of bao, dumplings, chicken wings and edamame guacamole. Not bad for a pineapple.
Malaysian flavours meet modern Australian flair, with some very tasty consequences, at vibrant Richmond eatery Jamu. With a clever fusion menu designed for all-out feasting, this 70-seater packs quite the punch.
The group-friendly destination, hidden underneath a towering apartment block, is helmed by Hawthorn AFL players James Frawley and Isaac Smith, along with hospitality veteran Evelyn Lau (A Thousand Blessings).
Inside, polished interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows provide a contemporary backdrop to Head Chef Calvin Wong's gutsy, yet thoughtful fare. The broad-ranging menu is primed for sharing and packed with palate pleasers, with small bites like kingfish ceviche ($24), cheeseburger spring rolls ($10), and sriracha and honey chicken wings ($14) a surefire hit with diners.
Bigger gems include globe-trotting shares like sticky soy pork belly bao ($18) and house-made baked roti teamed with a medley of mushrooms ($18). Go extra large with the likes of tamarind caramel pork hock ($40) and a 1.2kilogram wagyu tomahawk steak ($128), or leave the decision-making at the door and settle into the $58 per person 'Feed Me' menu, featuring a selection of kitchen favourites.
A diverse offering of wine, beer and cocktails rounds out the fun, especially come weekend happy hour time (2.30–5pm, Friday–Sunday) when it's all about the $5 tap brews and Aperol spritzes.
