Reckon you've got a bit of a competitive streak? Well, the Ancient Greeks sure did — they did create the Olympics, after all — and it's that spirit of competition that you'll get to dive right into at the National Museum of Australia's upcoming exhibition.

Running from Friday, December 17–Sunday, May 1, Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes will showcase hundreds of objects on tour from the British Museum, exploring the early Greeks' fierce rivalry underpinning everything from sport and politics to drama, music and warfare.

Almost all of the artefacts will be making their first-ever appearance in the southern hemisphere. Among the hefty collection, you'll find fascinating statues and bronze figurines, stunning jewellery, weapons and armour, pottery, sculptures, coins and even toys.

While you're there, take a guided audio tour and jump on the Paint Phila interactive touchscreen for a chance to see Ancient Greek art reimagined in colour. Book your timed visit to check out Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes here — it'll be open daily (except Christmas Day).
