Overview

No prizes for guessing what the Italian translation of La Cantina is. Feeling like every inch the Italian wine cellar from which it takes its name, La Cantina is a family-owned trattoria that prides itself on fare that bridges a divide between classicism and modernity.

Set on a quiet suburban strip mall in Narrabundah — a satellite suburb of in the city's inner south that punches well above its weight with dining experiences — La Cantina is warm and inviting.

The a la carte menu features all the familiar favourites — beef ragu gnocchi, crumbed pork cutlet, squid ink spaghetti and pizza. Opt for the sharing menu ($60 per head) for a selection of the restaurant's best, including ricotta-filled cannoli for dessert.

It's everything you could want a neighbourhood Italian diner to be, right down to the gallery of classic Renaissance art on the brick-clad walls.
