Overview

As much research as you may do before setting off on a visit to Canberra (which we can help you with right here), it's always good to leave a few empty spaces in the itinerary to fill once you've arrived. To get a lay of the land, make a stop at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre. Here, you can chat to helpful locals who will point you in the direction of top-notch eateries, galleries and cultural sites to ensure your time in Canberra is spent wisely.

Based in the same place as the National Capital Exhibition — a good spot to visit to learn about the history of the capital city — the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre also offers bike hire, with rates starting at $20 for two hours, if you feel like exploring the city on two wheels. There is a great selection of local beers, wines, spirits and food on offer, too.
