As we look into our crystal ball for what must be the most anticipated March for a long time, Concrete Playground has collated a handful of events that we feel make up the best of March 2012.

The weather wasn't kind to us in December, January and February were moderate, so we feel she owes it to us this coming month. So here are our picks for must see events for March 2012:

1. Fat Boy Slim, Skrillex, Die Antwoord and Porter Robinson

Vector Arena, Auckland

Featuring the legendary Fat Boy Slim, multi-grammy award winning producer Skrillex, rap ravers Die Antwoord and young and upcoming DJ Porter Robinson, the co-promoted event between Rhythm and Vines and Australia's Future Touring will surely be one of Auckland's loudest and proudest music events of the summer.

2. NYC - Three Short Ballets from the Big Apple

February 29 - March 3 2012

The Civic, Auckland

Anticipation has been building around the Royal New Zealand Ballet's upcoming performance of NYC Three Short Ballets from the Big Apple – and for more reasons than one. For starters this will be recently appointed artistic director Ethan Stiefel's first programme for the company. It's his chance to celebrate the incredibly creative city where he spent his 22-year dance career and also show us why he's so highly regarded internationally.

3. NZ Fashion Festival

February 24 - March 4 2012

Shed 10, Queen's Wharf

The ever popular Designer Garage Sale will wrap up the NZ Fashion Festival running on site on Saturday 3 March - Sunday 4 March. This is the perfect opportunity to freshen up your wardrobe for the remainder of the warmer months or in preparation for the winter to come.

All eyes are on Auckland during Cup Week – New Zealand's largest, richest, and most glamorous horse racing carnival which continues with the Stella Artois Auckland Cup Day. The TV3 Derby Day kicks off the first weekend of March featuring Kimbra, the best thing to come out of the Tron since the Finn Brothers. (Well, they were Te Awamutu, but near enough).
