King of Hard-Hitting Docos Louis Theroux Is Bringing His New Live Show to Auckland
The fearless filmmaker, journalist and social commentator is heading back Down Under in 2020.
During his last visit in 2016 he talked about surviving dens of iniquity all over the planet without losing his sanity or moral sense, the time he spent with a neo-Nazi gang in the United States and his brief stint as a rap god on New Orleans radio. Now, fearless filmmaker, immersive journalist and social commentator Louis Theroux is heading back Down Under for a national speaking tour.
"Australians are obviously connoisseurs of the weird side of life, and I look forward to coming back to share even more memorable moments and extraordinary stories from the people I have encountered in my films."
In January 2020, Theroux will treat Auckland audiences with his new show Louis Theroux Without Limits before jumping the ditch for Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra.
In the two-hour live show he will be joined by television and radio personality Julia Zemiro as they journey through the world's plethora of subcultures, relive some of Louis' most famous encounters and discuss what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
From the opioid epidemic and the dark reality behind sex-trafficking, to religious extremes and a whole new rulebook on modern-day relationships, expect to hear about some of the world's most intriguing beliefs, behaviours and institutions from the BAFTA-winning journalist.
The tour announcement comes as two new Louis Theroux-led documentaries are set to make their Australian premiere. Screening on BBC Knowledge from June 27, The Night in Question examines the rise of sexual assault cases on American university campuses, while Mothers on the Edge (available from July 4) sees Louis embed himself in specialist psychiatric mother and baby units in the UK to examine postpartum mental illness.
