Taking place in her brand new home for 2013, Carriageworks, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia and Sydney this year played host to the single largest industry-only event in Asia Pacific. Now in its 18th year, the event continues to support established and emerging design talent by providing a global platform and world class facilities for designers and brands to debut their latest collections and conduct crucial business transactions.

Last week saw nearly 2000 domestic and international delegates from around the world gather in Sydney to watch a total of 66 established and emerging designers present 52 shows. Key international media outlets such as Vogue China, Harper’s Bazaar US and Style.com, joined esteemed global bloggers including Susie Bubble and BryanBoy on the front rows, whilst buyers from luxury e-tailers, boutiques, showrooms and department stores including Net-a-Porter, David Jones, ShopBop and Myer attended Carriageworks every day of the event.

Key designers on show included, Romance was Born, Camilla and Marc, Shakuhachi, Alice McCall, Lisa Ho, Manning Cartell, Watson x Watson as well as some of our favourite kiwi designers including Kate Sylvester and Zambesi.

Collective trends showcased for spring/ summer 2013/14 included sheer fabrics, structured silhouettes softened with a peplum for femininity or teamed with a simple cropped-oversize tee for an effortless ‘cool-effect’. Additionally, volume proved a key player in the new season looks, enhancing sleeves and peplum's on dresses, tops and skirts. A cheeky bearing of mid-drift continues to prevail for another season, as does matching separates in playful patterns and bright pop colours.

Besides the outstanding fashion showcased down the runway, the street style of attendees were an additional fashion highlight of the week. Bloggers, Editors, Stylist and Buyers put on a fortuitous show outside Carriageworks, creating a hotspot for photographers on a mission to snap style!
